  • Will a windshield claim negatively affect my insurance?

When it comes to insurance there are two types of claims.  Comprehensive claims and collision claims.  A rock chip repair or windshield replacement claim falls under a no-fault comprehensive claim and has no negative affect on your policy.  They won’t raise your rates due to this type of claim.

  • Will my insurance cover my glass repair?

This depends on your insurance coverage as well as the type of repair needed.  Full coverage insurance policies cover rock chip repair at no cost.  Your deductible is waived if the damage is small and can be repaired.  The deductible applies to a full windshield replacement.  Some policies will have glass addendums that cover full replacements as well.  It’s best to check with your specific policy by calling your agent or local office.

    Example 1:

You have full coverage with a $500 deductible and you need a windshield replacement.  Call us for a quote, but on a typical vehicle the cost would be less than that $500 so you’d be best to pay out of pocket.

    Example 2:

You have full coverage with a $500 deductible and you need a small chip repair.  Your insurance company will waive that deductible and they will pay the full cost of the repair.

    Example 3:

You have full coverage with a $100 deductible and you need a windshield replacement.  In this case it would be worth using your insurance coverage for the windshield replacement and all you would pay is the $100 deductible.

“Liability Only” policies will not cover any glass damage.

  • Do I need an appointment or can I just stop by?

Drop in appointments are welcome for rock chip repair but it’s always best to call first to make sure I’m at the shop.  As an owner operator if I’m out of the shop there won’t be anyone to help you so a quick call or text before you come by is best.

  • Is it better to leave my car or stay and wait?

Most customers drop their car off and arrange a ride so they aren’t waiting.  The average windshield replacement takes just over an hour, but sometimes it can be longer depending on the vehicle.  Because we don’t have a “waiting room” many customers who choose to stay and wait like to enjoy the murdock canal trail that is just above the shop.

If my schedule allows it and you are close enough I can also offer to come pickup your car and drop it off when it’s complete.

  • What is the difference between OEM and aftermarket glass?

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufactured and is basically the same part as they use in the factory when assembling the vehicle.  This is a great option for glass replacement with the downside being the cost.  OEM glass is typically 3-4x more expensive than aftermarket parts.

Aftermarket glass is anything other than OEM.  There are several different aftermarket glass brands including: PGW, SGS, Pilkington, Carlite, Fuyau, XYG, AGC, PPG,  and more.

Aftermarket parts sold in the US have to meet all the same safely and fit requirements as OEM so you can trust that it will be a great fit for your vehicle.  Most shops install aftermarket glass because of the lower cost.  You can find a typical windshield replacement for $230-$350 using aftermarket parts when OEM is often 3x more than that.
